High up on one of the hills above the genteel Henley on Thames, sits this mighty oak tree, elegantly straddling a resplendent hedgerow with sprawling views of the Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire countryside.

At time of painting the fields had just been harvested and the shards of barley cut and scattered like so much chaff across the path that cuts across the field. To reach the field you cross the river Thames from The Angel pub to the The Little Angel pub, and go left down the lane towards Remenham and then right up the public footpath. Keep following the path, up the hill, through the woods and then out onto the field and when you crest the field on the path, this view opens up. It is glorious in any season, but in summer there’s almost always a warm breeze to savour and invisibly mop your brow. it is glorious and the epitome of the British countryside in summer - lush and rich with colour and contrast.

A great circular walk takes you on past (or indeed into), the flower pot pub and then back along the river into Henley for liquid refreshment.
