Crocodile Rock
Crocodile Rock
If you have never been to the Pembrokeshire coast, you are missing out on a hidden gem of the UK. Wonderful beaches, rolling hills, hidden valleys and lush fields of green succulent grass. This particular slice of heaven is on one side of Dinas Head just beyond Fishguard. There is a great little flat footpath that cuts across the back of Dinas Head to Cwm-yr-Eglwys - another magical spot with the ruins of an old church looking out to sea. Hugely atmospheric. I was lucky enough to stay with a wonderful couple who as very generous hosts showed me these hidden gems and knocked up some great food and even better drinks. Some of the best night’s sleeps ever…..
This scene at Pwllgwaelod beach is after removing footwear whilst wading among the sandy bottomed rock pools for hidden treasures. With my ankles being strangled by seaweed, from the corner of my eye the rock that emerges as the tide goes out appeared like a crocodile emerging from the sea. It was a glorious sunny late afternoon with hardly a breeze and the glassy waves were gently slopping at the seaweed - everything glistening and serene. Idyllic. The Welsh are wonderful people, and for me are key custodians of all that is soulful and good, mostly expressed through wonderful song
To do justice to the emerging crocodile and the cliffs heading away towards St David’s, this is another big canvas at 150cm x 100cm and will look stunning on a feature wall. It invites you in with warmth and a sense of calm. All prints are framed, signed and limited to a print run of 50.
Just behind the beach is the brilliantly located Old Sailors pub - with good food and well kept Welsh ales. A couple of hours here sat on the rocks is a superb way to soak in the view. Good rock pooling too and bacon on a piece of string gets you guaranteed success in the rock pooling stakes with crabs aplenty
